In an online double-conversion UPS, utility AC power is first converted to DC (rectifier stage), then immediately reconverted to clean AC (inverter stage). The load always runs on the inverter — never on raw utility power.
When utility power fails, the rectifier stops drawing from the mains and the batteries feed the inverter with no interruption or transfer time whatsoever. This architecture completely isolates the load from every utility power problem: outages, sags, swells, harmonics, noise, frequency variations, and transients.
